Sterio press kit

An iPhone music player that shows what happens to the signal on its way to your DAC.

Sterio plays your own music from SMB shares, UPnP/DLNA media servers, Jellyfin, Plex, Navidrome and other Subsonic servers, and a music folder on the device, and sends it to a USB DAC. A Signal Path screen shows every step from file to DAC, with a light: green is sent bit-perfect, orange means the EQ is on, red means something converts the signal, grey means it can't be checked.

Public beta on TestFlight. iPhone, iOS 17 or later; an iPad layout is in testing.

Short description

iPhone music player with a signal path that tells you whether playback is bit-perfect. DSD over DoP, SMB, UPnP, Jellyfin and Plex sources, graphic and parametric EQ.

What it does

  • Signal Path. Source format, transport, decoder, processing and output, plus a verdict. It reports what the app sends; it can't see what the DAC does afterwards.
  • DSD over DoP to USB DACs, with no conversion to PCM. Needs a DAC that accepts DoP.
  • Your library as it is. SMB shares, UPnP/DLNA media servers, Jellyfin, Plex, Navidrome/Subsonic, and a local library from a music folder on the device.
  • EQ. Graphic (6 bands) and parametric (up to 16 filters), with AutoEQ / Equalizer APO import. Presets can be shared.
  • Play on streamers. Control BluOS and UPnP/DLNA streamers from the phone.
  • Play on any device. Link any number of iPhones, iPads and Macs; they share one listening session (with Sterio Server 0.2.17 or later).
