Your music stays yours.
Last updated October 2026
Sterio is a music player for your own library. It doesn't have accounts, ads or tracking, and it doesn't send your library, listening history or settings to me or to anyone else.
What stays on your devices
- Server addresses and the credentials you enter for Jellyfin, Plex, Navidrome, SMB or other sources, kept in the system keychain.
- Your settings, equalizer presets, downloads and a local diagnostics log.
What stays on your server
Sterio Server keeps your library index, artwork cache, playlists, favourites, listener profiles and play history on the machine it runs on. It talks to the Sterio apps on your network, and, only if you say yes when its dashboard asks, says hi once a day with a random id, its version and its platform. No IP address is kept, and nothing about your music, files or devices is sent.
Crash reports
When Sterio on iPhone, iPad or Android crashes or freezes, it sends a report to Sentry, a crash-reporting service, on its servers in the EU, so I can fix it. A report holds the error and where in the code it happened, the app version and build, the system version (iOS, iPadOS or Android), the device model and, for a freeze, the stuck part of the app. On Android it also has the device maker, the processor type, the memory and screen size, and the language setting.
Reports are anonymous. They carry no user or installation id and no IP address, no account, server address or stream link, and nothing about your music: no tracks, no library, no screenshots or screen contents. Network activity isn't recorded, and addresses are removed from error messages before a report is sent. Storing IP addresses is turned off for the whole project.
Like most crash reports, one also carries the last few things that happened in the app before the crash: which screen opened, that a button was tapped, and system events such as the battery level, a connection change or the screen turning off. These carry no names, no music and no addresses.
Crash reports are on by default. Turn them off at any time in Settings › Support › Send crash reports. The Mac version doesn't send them yet.
What goes elsewhere
- Your music sources, which you choose and control.
- Radio Paradise, only when you play its streams.
- Sentry: the anonymous crash reports above, unless you turn them off.
- Apple, through TestFlight: crash reports and feedback you choose to send, under Apple's own privacy policy.
The diagnostics log is separate from crash reports: it stays on your device and is shared only if you export it and send it yourself.
