Connect to Sterio Server

Pair a device with your server, with a code or by asking to connect.

Needs Sterio Server. Install it from the download page.

Where to find it

  • Settings › Connections › Add a connection › Sterio Server.

Option 1: a pairing code

  1. 1Search for the server or type its address, such as http://nas.local:7766 at home or https://music.example.com when you're away.
  2. 2Get a code in any of these ways: on the dashboard, Devices › Or use a connection code › Copy code; in Docker, run docker exec sterio node src/cli.mjs pair; or on an admin device, Settings › Server administration › Connect a device.
  3. 3Enter the code. It works once and expires after 5 minutes.

Option 2: ask to connect

Without a code, the device asks to connect. The server's owner sees it under Connection requests, on the dashboard or as a notification on an admin device. Both screens show the same 4-digit code; accept it and the device is in.

No accounts

Every device signs in with its own key, kept in the system keychain. There are no accounts and no passwords.

Admin devices

Make a device admin on the dashboard, under Devices. It then gets Settings › Server administration: library scan, split albums into tracks, SACD discs, connect a device and connection requests.

The dashboard

  • Mac: the server's menu bar icon › Open Dashboard.
  • Docker: http://your-nas:7767, from your local network only.
